Abstract

Akhtar ul Iman is one of the greatest Urdu poet screenwriter of modern age. He has great influence on modern Urdu nazm. His poetry is basically indirect and symbolic. Symbolism is predominant factor of his poetry .His poetry is a journey towards modernism from conservatism, from bondage to freedom and from limit to limitlessness. His poems show new life and new atmosphere. He touched new theme and new subjects which were never written in the past. Man’s individual and social life, his internal and external world are the main subjects of his poetry. He never wrote on traditional subjects. The main target of his poetry is the man who wished for peace and prosperity in the world .He did not belong to any trend or movement .He was not in favour of imitation. His poetry has its own meaning and own metaphors. He shows new spectacles to the readers which creates underlying meaning in his poetry. He has deep social consciousness. His personal life is depicted in his poems but it does not mean he has no awareness of surroundings. He was not only a great poet but a great human being.
