Abstract

The augmenting prevalence of plastic surgery is weaving doubt in the minds of the masses regarding its adherence to Islamic Dogma. According to this research, it is to explore the Qur'anic verses and the prophetic sayings of the Islamic law, in which the first perspective approaches establishing a superiority for the beauty enhancement while the second presents defects removing as a legal act. First of all, a paper will illustrate what is plastic surgery and all its equipment or departments. To begin with, it points out that according to the principles of Islam, the physical appearance of a person is not of any significance but positive attitude towards others is what counts most. Besides, one should not forget that people in a modern society tend to attach a particular value, sometimes even an exaggerated one, to physiognomy. The research is focused on a close study of the essential Islamic sources (Quran and Sunnah) and the opinions of medieval Islamic scholars on the body modification subject. It has a purpose for instance, it draws a frame for an evaluation regarding plastic surgery which is intended to change a medical condition or to correct some aesthetic defects. Corrective treatment procedures that are usually thought as morally justified and aim at elimination of congenital defects, functional restoration, or alleviating the physical discomfort are generally considered beneficial as they improve the quality of life. Research will also touch on the medical ethics of plastic surgery while considering potential side effects like low self-esteem and the society's image. It underlines the roles that informed consent and responsible decision-making have in this drama.
